Phil is a writer, producer, director and teacher
He has combined a career teaching the next generation of film-makers, with the continuing development of his own films.
He was Course Leader for the BA (Hons) in Film Production (probably the most popular film course in the UK) at the Arts University College at Bournemouth (awarded Film Council Screen Academy status in 2005), Course Co-ordinator for the Film Short Courses and a Principal lecturer on the Digital Media Production Course . He also recently completed a MA in Screenwriritng at Bournemouth University.
Having qualified originally as a professional photographer, Phil worked though a wide range of roles in film and TV production including sound recordist, camera assistant, writer, cable TV producer before joining the BBC, where he worked as production manager, researcher & director including 3 series of Movie Magic, RPM and The Journey series; having 50 + broadcast director credits. He also directed daily regional news programmes South Today & Points West.
From the BBC he became Film & Television Co-ordinator for BA (Hons.) in Film and Television Production at Salisbury College, where his students went on to work on many British films and TV, including Four Weddings, Mrs Brown, Tomb Raider, Chocolat, Troy, Little Britain, Green Wing, Kumars at 42, and Dr Who amongst many others.
He was an Advisor to Bulgarian National TV and Radio and Media/communication Specialist for European Community at Orekhovo-Zujevo in the Russian Federation and has been particularly involved in the development of Independent film-making in the south and west of England.
Founder member of Board of Directors of Bristol Film Workshop, Member of Board of Directors of Spice Island Artspace Arts Centre, Western Region Co-ordinator of Community Communications Association. Founding member of Board of Directors and Trustee of Harbour Lights BFI Regional Film Theatre, Southampton Arts Centre Ltd (Company Secretary), City Eye Video Ltd (Chairman)
He was also Southampton Film Festival Education Programme Co-ordinator for 9 years; Film Programmer for Southampton Gantry Arts Centre for 6 years; Hon Sec British Kinematograph Sound & Television Society, Southern Region and a Reader and Reviewer for Focal Press.
His feature script “Best of Intentions” was short-listed for Euroscript development (2000)

Phil played a zombie (being machine gunned) in 28 Days Later (having co-ordinated the zombie extras)
